MAYOR ACCOUNTS WITH STATE OF THE MUNICIPAL ADDRESS
Our Executive Mayor, Alderwoman M.P Nkosi, delivered the 2026 State of the Municipal Address (SOMA) on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, providing an account of the municipality's work and progress during the 2021-2026 political term.
The address reflected on the municipality's achievements in service delivery, infrastructure development, institutional capacity, financial management, economic opportunities and community support, while acknowledging the challenges that continue to affect residents.
Over the five-year term, the municipality recorded progress in expanding access to basic services, strengthening water and sanitation infrastructure, improving wastewater management, upgrading and maintaining roads, expanding electricity access and increasing institutional capacity.
Alderwoman Nkosi also highlighted efforts to create opportunities for residents through the Expanded Public Works Programme, youth skills development and workplace-based learning, while supporting local SMMEs and vulnerable members of the community.
She further acknowledged the realities facing communities, including financial pressures, infrastructure backlogs, ageing municipal assets, crime, unemployment, illegal dumping, substance abuse, infrastructure vandalism and concerns around undocumented immigration and compliance with the country's laws.
Looking ahead, the mayor identified financial sustainability, infrastructure maintenance and expansion, institutional capacity, economic growth and youth inclusion, and meaningful community participation as key areas requiring continued attention.
The 2026 SOMA provided both an account of the work undertaken during the 2021–2026 term and a clear indication of the priorities that must continue to guide the municipality beyond 2026.
“Five years ago, we accepted the mandate to lead. Today, we account for the work done. Tomorrow, the work of building a stronger, more sustainable Msukaligwa continues,” Alderwoman M.P Nkosi.
