UPGRADES IN MOTION TO STRENGTHEN SANITATION SERVICES

Wesselton, 10 March 2026

Residents of Ermelo and Wesselton can look forward to improved sanitation services as the Msukaligwa Local Municipality progresses with the refurbishment and extension of the Ermelo/Wesselton Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The plant currently treats about 4 million litres of wastewater a day. Through the refurbishment, treatment capacity will be restored to about 9 million litres a day, improving the municipality’s ability to manage wastewater and reduce sewer overflows.

The extension includes the construction of new inlet works capable of receiving up to 33 million litres of wastewater a day, strengthening the plant’s ability to accommodate future demand as the town grows.

The project has also created 31 work opportunities, and 15 local Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises have benefited through participation in the works.

This progress was highlighted during an oversight visit by the Executive Mayor, Alderwoman M.P Nkosi, and municipal officials, who received an update from the contractor and observed work currently underway on site.
