RECOGNITION OF IMPROVEMENT IN 2025 GREEN REPORT RELEASE

2 April 2026,

Ermelo - Msukaligwa Local Municipality has been recognised by the Department of Water and Sanitation as one of the most improved municipalities under the Green Drop Programme, achieving second place for Best Progress in wastewater management.

The recognition was announced at an event held in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, where municipalities were assessed on their performance in managing water and sanitation services.

This achievement reflects significant progress, with the municipality improving its performance from 17% in 2021 to 66.7% in 2025. The improvement demonstrates a strengthened focus on enhancing wastewater treatment processes, reinforcing compliance and monitoring systems, and addressing infrastructure and operational challenges in a structured and accountable manner.

Ongoing infrastructure initiatives, including the refurbishment of the Ermelo Wastewater Treatment Works, further support this progress, as the municipality continues to invest in upgrading and maintaining critical water and sanitation infrastructure. The public was recently updated in March on this project, which forms part of broader efforts to ensure long-term service reliability.

Msukaligwa Local Municipality remains committed to sustaining this progress and continuing to improve the quality, reliability, and safety of water and sanitation services for all residents.
